cbd oil vs hemp oil

CBD Oil vs. Hemp Oil

You've seen hempseed oil in the grocery store, and while it's not the cheapest oil on the shelf … it's less expensive than the CBD hemp oil you've seen online. So maybe you could buy that and it's just as good, right? Wrong. CBD oil and hempseed oil are two totally different products. While they both originate from the same plant – cannabis – they are as different as, say, hemp rope and marijuana. Just as you can't smoke hemp rope for its psychotropic qualities, there aren't the same benefits between the two types of oils. Let's take a closer look at the differences and similarities of these products:

Different Uses

Since hempseed oil is sold next to the olive oil and the canola oil, you've probably figured out that it's used for cooking. It's a nutty, flavorful oil that's great for a stir fry or used as a substitute for butter in vegan cooking. CBD hemp oil, meanwhile, is a dietary supplement that is sold in concentrated form. The biggest difference between the two is that CBD hemp oil is made with a process that maximizes the CBD, or cannabidiol, that has a variety of health benefits for humans and other animals alike.

Different Part of the Plant

Hempseed oil – obviously – is made from processing the hemp seed, and the seeds are packed with protein, polyunsaturated fatty acids, omega 6, omega 3 and insoluble fiber. They're a great source of Vitamin E, contain lots of great minerals and microelements the body needs. It's wonderful to cook with! But CBD hemp oil, and the CBD extract used to make it, comes from the hemp flower, leaves and a bit of the stem. There is very little CBD extract to be found in the seed. Some companies will produce CBD hemp oil using just the isolated CBD molecule found in the flowers, but Functional Remedies uses a whole-plant methodology (minus the seeds and the stalk) to increase the overall health benefits.

Different Benefits

Because hempseed oil does not contain therapeutic levels of CBD, it offers very different benefits than CBD hemp oil. Hempseed oil can help improve cardiovascular health, increase immunity and maintain skin health. CBD extract, meanwhile, has been shown to help with emotional stability, hormone regulation, relaxation, and many other reported benefits. It is the difference between nutritional value and therapeutic value.

Both are Legal to Use

But here is a big similarity that not everyone may realize: Both are completely legal in all 50 states. This is the difference between CBD hemp oil and medical marijuana: When CBD oil is produced from the hemp plant, there is just a trace amount of THC, or what causes people to "get high." Neither hempseed oil nor CBD hemp oil produce any sort of psychotropic effects, and both can be purchased and used in all 50 states. While of course the hempseed oil is sold solely as an oil, CBD hemp oil can be purchased as a tincture, in a capsule form and as a salve.
